Car Free Days have been a popular feature of Centennial Park since 1992.
They are held on the last Sunday of every season.
On Car Free Days, the vehicle gates and internal roads within Centennial Park are closed to cars offering a great chance to enjoy a cycling or rollerblading session without the congestion of car traffic.
So why not leave the car behind, grab a ball or frisbee, and make use of the many cycle paths around your area which lead to Centennial Park.
Visitor Safety
Visitors on Car Free Day should continue to take care on roadways within Centennial Park. Cyclists, rollerbladers and emergency vehicles still use the roads on these days, so visitors should remain alert when crossing or using a road.

How do I get to the Parklands?
Getting to Centennial Parklands is easy - and we recommend catching public transport whenever possible.
Visit our Getting to the Parklands page for more information.
Where can I park nearby on a Car Free Day?
While we highly recommend catching public transport on a Car Free Day (see our Getting to the Parklands page), there may be some occasions where driving to the Parklands is unavoidable.
In these instances, we can recommend the multi-storey Parking Station at the Entertainment Quarter.
With over 2,000 spaces available and the first two hours free (before 6.00 pm), the parking station is just a short walk from Centennial Park's Robertson Road Gates (see map).
What if I require mobility access on a car free day?
If you have a current RTA-issued Mobility Access permit you will be permitted access into Cetnennial Park via the Jervois Avenue Gate (see map).
At the Gate, you will be directed to wait until a Ranger Security escort arrives to escort you.
When ready to leave, you must ring the Ranger on 0412 718 611. The Ranger will then escort you out of the Park via Jervois Avenue Gates.
This may take 15-20 minutes depending on other priorities.
Will Centennial Park's businesses still be open on Car Free Day?
Yes. All of the businesses operating on any given Sunday will still operate on Car Free Days in Centennial Park.
This includes:
- Centennial Parklands Dining
- Centennial Park Cycles
- Mobile Food Van
So you may not even need to bring food, drinks or bikes on a Car Free Day as they will all be available within the Park.
