Park Improvement Projects

View from Queens Park looking towards the cityCentennial Parklands is one of Sydney’s most popular destinations in Australia, drawing over ten million visits per annum. This figure is growing by approximately 150,000 visits per year.

The demands on use of spaces and facilities offered by the Parklands are high - stemming from a wide variety of users including tourists, community service participants, schools, individuals and families undertaking passive and active recreation activities. Accommodating diverse needs while ensuring the long term sustainability of the Parklands for future generations is a key challenge.

Planning for the future

To cope with these pressures, the Trust developed a Plan of Management 2006-2016 to provide a medium-to-long term management framework for the Parklands.

A key linkage with the Plan of Management is the Park Improvement Plan 2002-2009 - a Treasury-approved capital program which will result in significant improvements for visitors and the environment across the Parklands.

Progress to date

Over $44 million of works have been completed in the first six years of the Plan.
