Call for stories and memories of the Parklands

2 November 2008

Feeding the Ducks at Duck Pond, circa 1930sDid you grow up around Centennial Parklands? Did you visit regularly? Have you walked in the Park all your life? Or have you just discovered this place?

Centennial Park was established back in 1888 and dubbed "The People's Park". Over the intervening 120 years, never has a truer name been given to a public space. The history of these Parklands is as much about the 'people' as the 'place'.

From our leaders' ideas that shaped the landscape to the everyday family who picnic by the ponds, from a music lover attending a Bob Dylan concert to group of children spotlighting possums after dark - Centennial Parklands has been built on a thousand memories, experiences and stories.

And we want to hear about them!

Model yacht races were held at Model Yacht PondCome and chat to us...or send us your stories

November 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of the Trust's Act passing through the NSW Parliament. As part of documenting the Parklands' history, we invite you to participate in our oral history program.

Your memories or stories may even be included in our forthcoming souvenir booklet on Centennial Parklands!

Old photos, old newspaper clippings or just a verbal story is fine. And if you can't make it to the Parklands, why not send us your stories or memories by email (info@centennialparklands.com.au).
